CARGO “CONTAMINATED”
HANDLED BY STRIKE BREAKERS TROUBLE WITH CREW OF WAIRUNA Press Association —By Telegraph Copyright VANCOUVER, September 23. (Received September 24, at 1 p.m.) The crew, of the s.s. Wairuna, from Australia, refused to give steam to permit of the unloading of cargo, because they alleged that the handling of the cargo ■ .would be unfair, claiming tnat it had been handled by strike breakers during the longshoremen’s strike inaugurated on June 4. One member of the Wairuna’s crew is in hospital here, and his place must be taken by a seaman nominated by the Seafarers’ Industrial Union acceptable to the cfew.
When the matter is cleared up the crew will decide whether they take the Wairuna home or tie up in Vancouver.
