“MICROPHONE MUZZLE”
REPLY TO CABINET CRITIC DESIRED CLERGY’S MEETING TO-NIGHT [Pan United Press Association.] 1 AUCKLAND September 24. “ A 'summary of the proposed .peeches is necessary before proper con--.ideration can be given” is the text if a telegram received this morning by station IZB (The Friendly Road) from the Broadcasting Board in reply to telegrams requesting permission to broadcast the. Town Hall meeting to-night arranged* by a group of ministers in reference to the administration of social welfare, being a reply to the, Employment Minister’s criticism of an earlier nesting. The Rev. Mr Scrnngeonr, the IZB licensee, forwarded this telegram in reply: “ Speakers as advertised will refer to social conditions and make a plea for social justice. Request urgently definite approval or refusal.” Mr Scnmgeour says the board inust have known that its condition was impossible of fulfilment, and he takes the reply to mean refusal. If so it will be another fllustration of the ridiculous muzzle imposed on the microphone.
