THE SHARE MARKET

DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE After an extended week-end on account of the holiday yesterday, the Dunedin Stock Exchange resumed business this morning. New Zealands provided the only buyer in the banking section, in which there was a long list of sellers at rates on a par with closing quotations last week. Sellers asked 6s for Mortgage Corporation shares but failed to interest buyers. These shares showed a sharp decline on the Christchurch Exchange on Saturday, when the prices fell to buyers at 5s 7d and sellers at 5s 9d, com parcel with last business at 6s 4d. Goldshrough, Morts were again weaker, with sellers down 6d to 30s, with no buying quotation. Wright, Stephensons proved an exception, having strong buying inquiry for both issues and a seller of the ordinaries at a wide margin. Prices were brought back sharply for a number of Australian industrials, notably Broken Hill Proprietarys, which, were for sale at 64s cum rights, representing a drop of Is on Saturday’s quotation. During the recent weakening of prices it has been noticeable that New Zealand company shares have been much steadier than Australian, though sellers continued to he in the ascendancy this morning. Woolwortns (Sydney) ordinaries showed a chock, and buyers at Sgs failed to reveal a seller. _ Concessions were also made in New Zealand Breweries, sellers being prepared to quit at 51s, with buyers standing o(f at 50s. There was a general weakening m' Australian mining shares, Mount Lyells being marked down 3d, Mount Morgans Is, and Upper Watuts Id. The market for Government loans was most "erratic, buyers being less numerous than for some time past for the 3) per cent, issues, while tho 4 per cents, were steady, with only one parcel on offer.
