CRICKET
ALBION LADIES' CLUB The second annual meeting of the Albion Ladies’ Cricket Club was held in the Y.M.C.A. last night, Mr W. G. Pickard presiding over an attendance of 17 members.' The annual report stated that the past season was a most enjoyable one and quite satisfactory from a playing point of view. On the playing field the club established quite a fair record, taking into consideration the_ amount of experience the majority of its members had had of the game. The club had a credit balance of £1 2s 4d, compared with £2 9s 9d at the end of the previous season, the working power of one team against that of two _ teams accounting for the difference in the financial position. It was particularly pleasing to note that all subscriptions had been met. During the season members farewelled their captain and most valued member, Miss H. Johnson, who departed for Christchurch to continue her studies at the Training College in that city. The club’s congratulations were due to Miss Johnson For the great success which she achieved with her bat. Prior to her departure she had secured one of the highest aggregates towards the winning of the Hudson trophy. Representative honours were gained during the season by Misses H. Johnson and M. Bewley. The former played in the games against the English ladies’ team, and against Southland and Canterbury. Miss Bewley was another member who brought honour to the club in her being selected for the Otago team which played against the English team. Special thanks were due to the vice-presidents, who had helped in a financial way, also to Messrs W. G. Pickard, H. Vorrath, V. Robinson, C. Hart, and members of the men’s senior eleven for the, immense amount of time they had devoted in the interests of the members.
The report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of office-bearers resulted:—President, Mr W. G. Pickard; vice-presidents—Mesdames J. J. Clark, V. Robinson, C. Stanley Smith, H. Vorrath, J. Shepherd, H. J. Duncan, D, Murray, G. Wilson, D. Gray, C. Hart, and Messrs J. Abbott, H. .Vorrath, C. Hart, and V. Robinson; secretary and treasurer, Miss M. Grant; delegates to the Otago Ladies’ Cricket Association, Misses O. Gray and M. Bewley; committee—Misses D. Meder, E. Sinclair, E. Holmes, J. Burgess, and M. M. Sandys; club captain, Miss M. Bewley; deputy-club captain, Miss 0. Gray. Six new members were elected. The official opening of the season was fixed for October 5.
Special votes of thanks were accorded the past president (Mr C. Payne) and the, retiring secretary (Miss L. Dover) for their services to the club since its inception.
