PRESENTATION TO LOVELOCK
GOOD SUM IN HAND OTAGO RESPONDS. WELL
[By P.istol.]
The testimonial from New Zealand sportsmen to the famous mile runner and Rhodes scholar, J. E. Lovelock, has met with a good response, and the presentation will be made to the former Otago champion at a gathering of the All Blacks prior to the international match with England. , This information was conveyed to “ Pistol ”« on Saturday by Mr J. K. Moloney, president of,the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, who, with Mr C. H. Taylor, jun., has been associated with the effort sponsored by the Pioneer Sports Club (Christchurch) towards this direction. The presentation will probably be made by Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, and the' occasion should be a particularly happy one for Lovelock since the captain of the All Blacks, J. E. Manchester, is, like Lovelock, an Okh Boy of Timaru Boys’ High School. To, date, the total sum collected for the testimonial is £53 8s 4d, and the presentation will take the form of a writing desk in picked New Zealand woods, with Maori influence, designed by Mr Cecil Wood.
