OBITUARY
MR JAMES BAFFIN [Per United Press Association.] WANGANUI, June 22. The death has occurred of Mr James Caffin in his 93rd year. He formerly Jived in Dunedin, where for many years he was a partner in the stationery firm of Wise, Caffin and Co. Later he was dominion representative for Sands M'Dougall, Melbourne, when he became known as the “father of tho road.” He was the first commercial traveller in New Zealand. [The late Mr Caffin lived in Dunedin till seven years ago, when he took up his residence in Wanganui. He was always of a retiring disposition. His health was robust until last Christmas, and gave no concern to his family until recently. He was twice married, and leaves four sons and one daughter— Mrs Harper Reid (Wanganui), Maurice and Maitland (who arc in business in Christchurch), Arthur (now living in retirement in Melbourne), and C. Ray (who is the secretary of the Forbury Park Trotting Club.]
