He had fonvarded the secretary ot the club particulars regarding affiliation and also as to the cost to the club of participating in the tour by the Australian swimmers. The secretary’s action was approved. The secretary reported that replies had come to hand from the Southland and Ashburton Centres and from the Alexandra, Oa/naru, and Cromwell Clubs agreeing to take appearances from the Australians, and with Otago Centi’e this would provide for nine appearances. Replies were still awaited from the West Coast and South Canterbury Centres which had previously expressed willingness to participate, and the Linwood Club (Christchurch) hod been written to and invited to take part. Mr Dudley Hellmrich (secretary of the New South Wales Amateur Swimming Association) had advised him that Messrs Reg. Clarke and Harry Tickle were definitely available if invited to tour in November and December. Mr Hellmrich, who had already been invited to act as manager and coach, would also be available. It was decided to await replies from the centres which had not yet done so, and in the event of these not coining to hand before the next meeting the secretary and treasurer (Mr E. , G. James) were authorised to draw up a tentative itinerary for submission to the New Zealand Council, which will bo asked to forward the invitation to the Amateur Swimming Union of Australia. A letter was received from the secretary of the Otago State Brim, ary Schools' Sports Association advising that as a matter of policy it was unable to accept the centre’s offer of a trophy to be competed for at the association’s annual swimming carnival. The association appreciated the offer, but it had a fixed rule that no individual awards should be given at these meetings, and, moreover, it had sufficient trophies for its purpose—Received. It was resolved that the presentation of championship prizes take place following a meeting of the centre, and .Messrs Bannatyne, Kerr, Taylor, and the secretary were appointed to arrange'the function. It was also decided to make a presentation to W. J. Jarvis of an illuminated address in view of his recent Now Zealand recordbreaking performance of 23 l-ssec for 50 yards.
