JOHN M’GLASHAN COLLEGE
* NEW PRINCIPAL APPOINTED MR R. G. C. M‘NAB, OF WANGANUI The Board of Governors of the John M'Glashan College has appointed Mr Uobert George Colin M‘Nab, M.A., to be tlie principal of the college, as successor to Mr C. M. Gilray, who is leaving Dunedin to take up the position of principal of 'Scotch College. Melbourne. The new principal was born in Auckland, and was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and Auckland University College. At school Mr M‘Nab gained junior and senior Education Board scholarships, and he entered the University as the holder of a junior university scholarship. In the course of a distinguished university career Mr M‘Nab won a senior university scholarship in English-and gained tho college premiums in English ami French and tho Early English Text Society’s prize, and took his M.A. degree with honours in English and French. Mr M'Nah’s earliest teaching experience was at the Auckland Grammar School and the Christchurch Boys’ High School, and since 1920 he has been a member of tlie staff of Wanganui Collegiate School. In 1927 Mr M‘Nab was appointed house master of Hadfiold House, the largest house in tho school, and he is now the senior house master, as well as being tho first assistant of the school. Mr M‘Nab is well qualified to teach English, French, Latin, and history to university scholarship standard, and he has for some years been in charge of the English department throughout the college Some years ago Mr M‘Nab re estab' lished the School Dramatic Society, which is now a very flourishing school institution, and he is also responsible for the editing ami management of the school magazine. Mr M‘Nab has played cricket and hockey for Auckland University, and on f4e outdoor side of the school liio he has played a very active part as coach of football and cricket teams, ami as second in command of the Collegiate School’s considerable Cadet Corps. Tlie new principal comes to Dunedin with excellent testimonials from all the head masters under whom he has served, and the board regards itself as very fortunate indeed in having been able to secure for the college a principal whoso record and experience fit him so well for the position to which lie has been appointed. Mr M‘Nab will take over bis new duties this year at the beginning of the third term.
