MUSEUM EXTENSION

GENEROUS GIFT INCREASED £1,250 GIVEN ANONYMOUSLY An offer to give 400 Bank of New Zealand shares, of an approximate value of £2 10s each, as a nucleus of a fund to be initiated for museum extension, has been since increased by the anonymous donor to 500 shares. At yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the University Council, the Committee of Alauagement of the Aluseuin reported that an anonymous donor had expressed his intention of presenting to the University 400 Bank of New Zealand shares of an approximate value of £2 10s each, for the purpose of initiating a fund to provide for museum extension. The committee had expressed its thanks to the donor for his generosity, and resolved to recommend to the council that the fund accumulate for ten years until it could be used for building extension. If, however, special circumstances arise, portion of the fund might be spent before the expiry of ten years, but only if a recommendation to this effect were made by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the committee of management of the museum. It had been further resolved that tlie income of th© fund be invested from time to. time by the University Council after consultation with the chairman of this committee. The Chancellor, moving the adoption 'of the report, said that the decision of the committee regarding the accumulation of the fund was in accord with the wisli of the donor, and seemed tho wisest way of dealing with the matter. The report was adopted. Later the registrar (Air H. Chapman) stated that the offer had been increased to 500 shares. The council passed a sincere vote of thanks to the; donor. LOOKING AFTER FATHER.
