Riverton, Orepuki, bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— A cyclonic depression is still centred near the northern extremity of the dominion, while intense anti-cyclones are centred near Chatham Island and over the Western Tasman Sea. Forecast; Light to moderate, but freshening, southerly winds; weather still cloudy to overcast, with mist or fog in places, and scattered rains, improving gradually inland ; temperatures colder; seas rather rough. ARRIVED.—June 20. Opihi, s.s. (7.15 a.m.), 1,117' tons, Evans, from New Plymouth via ports. Parera, s.s. (8 a.m.), 555 tons, Barker, from Bluff. Waikouaiti, s.s. (9.30 a.m.), 3,926 tons, Watson, from Sydney via Bluff. Port Whangarei, m.s. (noon), 508 tons, from Whangarei via ports. " ; SAILED.—June 19. Poolta, s.s. (8.15 p.m.), 1,675 tons, C.- Jf Hackworth, for Napier and Gisborne via ports. - . COASTWISE MOVEMENTS. Poolta sailed last evening for Napier and Gisborne via Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, and Wellington. Gale, which has just been painted and cleaned in dry dock at Port Chalmers, proceeded to Dunedin last night and loading was commenced to-day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui.' She will sail to-night. Opihi arrived from New Plymouth via ports this morning, and will load out to-night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. Parera returned from Bluff this morning to continue loading for Timaru, Lyttelton. Wellington, Nelson, Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Waikato. She will sail to-night. Port Whangarei, from Auckland, arrived at noon, when loading was commenced for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Tauranga, Auckland, and _ AVhaugarei. She is timed to sail to-night. AViugatui was to leave Wellington this afternoon and is due here on Friday to load and sail on Saturday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Paua, coastal tanker, is due from Wellington via ports on Saturday to discharge motor spirit. She then proceeds to Bluff. John loads here on Monday for Dargaville via ports. Breeze is due on Monday from Wellington and will sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington. Wanganui. Picton, and New Plymouth. Waimariujwleaves Auckland on Friday for Weiimgton, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due here on .lime 27. WAIKOUAITI ARRIVES. With general cargo from Newcastle and Sydney for discharge, the Waikouaiti arrived Horn Bluff this_ morning. She is scheduled to sail on Friday morning for Timaru, Lyttelton, Oamaru, and Bluff; thence to Sydney, Newcastle, and Hobart. WAITAKI DUE SATURDAY. Making her first call at Dunedin, her nort of registry, the new Waitaki, from England and South Australian ports, will leave Bluff on Friday and arrive here on Saturday. She will discharge general cargo, and then sail for Lyttel-

ton and Wellington to complete. On July 6 she is to leave Wellington for Bluff and Melbourne, replacing the Wainui in the Melbourne-South IslaudWellingtou service. She will maintain three-weekly sailings in this service until the Maheno resumes in October. RARANGA ON SUNDAY. Comnig from, London to load, the Raranga is timed to arrive at Dunedin on Sunday to commence operations. She will leave on June 27 for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Auckland, to sail finally from the lastnamed port on July 17. HORORATA DUE JUNE 28. From London via Lyttelton, the Hororata is due at Port Chalmers on June 28 to discharge general cargo, after which she will proceed to New Plymouth to complete unloading. Homeward loading will then commence at Opua and continue at Tokomaru Bay and Wellington. She will sail from Wellington on July 20. tanker due Eater. The tanker Filefjell, from Balikpapau, which is discharging motor spirit to the agency of the Shell Oil Company, will not now arrive from northern ports until about the end of next week. ’KAIMIRO’S loading. The Kaimiro is to commence loading at Edith burg on June 23 and continue at Adelaide on June 26 and Melbourne on June 29 for New Plymouth, Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due at New Plymouth about July 5, and Dunedin about July 15. INTERISLAND SERVICE. The interisland express steamer Wahine arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.50 this.morning. Passengers and mails for the south connected with the express. NORTHERN NEWS. The Zealandic, having been further delayed at Oamaru, was due at Lyttelton to-day to continue loading. The Winifred Mollcr (ex Katoa) is expected to leave Wellington for Shanghai to-morrow. The Matakana, bringing cargo for Auckland and Wellington, left London last Friday morning. She is due at Auckland about July 22, and at Wellington five days later. The Norwegian tanker New Zealand, which left Los Angeles on June 4, is due at Auckland on June 29. She will complete discharge of her motor spirit cargo at Melbourne, Sydney, and Newcastle. ' RANGITIKI LEAVES PANAMA. The Raugitiki, on route from London for Wellington and Auckland, sailed ■ from Panama last Thursday. She is due at Wellington on July 4. WAIHEMO COMING. , The traus-Pacific freighter .Waihemo was expected to leave San Francisco to-day for the Islands, New Zealand, and Australia. She has been held up at San Francisco since May 11 pending the settlement of the Californian shipping strike, which is now over. WAIRUNA AWAY. •Bringing a large cargo, the freighter Wairuna left Vancouver last Saturday afternoon for Papeete, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia. She is due at Auckland about July 16 and Dunedin on July 28. TAPTI CLEARS NEWPORT NEAVS. The Tapti, en route from New York for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australian ports, left Newport News last Thursday afternoon. She is due at Auckland on July 15 and Dunedin on July 24. AVANGANELLA’S BRIEF STAY, The Huddart, Parker motor ship Wanganella, which arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon from Sydney, remained only till midnight in port owing to the fact that she is to make a cruise from Sydney to Noumea' and Norfolk Island. The vessel is to leave Sydney for Noumea and Norfolk Island next Saturday. She is clue back at Sydney from the cruise on July 2. SHIP FOR PHOSPHATES. Specially designed for the phosphate trade between Nauru and Ocean Islands and Australia and New Zealand, a large motor ship is at present on order to the British Phosphate Commissioners: The vessel is being built by Lithgows, of Glasgow, and will he launched before the end of the present year. The new ship—the commissioners’ other vessel, the Triona, is a steamer—will be a vessel of 4,413 tons gross, with a length between perpendiculars of 365 ft, a breadth moulded of 54ft, and a depth moulded to shelter deck of 34ft Gin She will be of the open shelterdeck type, having continuous ma'in and shelter decks, also poop, boat deck, and forecastle. There will be seven watertight bulkheads dividing the-hull into five cargo holds, machinery space, ami forward and after peaks. The four main cargo holds will have each a largo hatchway, 24ft wide, and will be worked by ten steam winches, while a fifty-ton derrick will be provided for heavy lifts. Mainly ■ for reasons of mooring, the bow of the ship is to be of'the special form usually adopted in cable vessels, while special arrangements will be provided for lifting and laying heavy deepsea moorings. There will also he space for refrigerated cargo and accommodation for the carriage of Kanaka labourers to and from the phosphate islands. At the suggestion of Commander R. C. Garcia. Administrator of Nauru, the vessel is also to be fitted with a special depth-sounding instrument, the use of which will facilitate oceanographical research in the Pacific water traversed bv her.
