DRUG STANDARDS
, AN IMPORTANT DECISION (Pbr Ukitsto P***s Amocutiom.] : WELLINGTON, June 19. A judgment of importance to chemists, and to all who sell goods covered by the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908, was'delivered hy Mr Page, S.M., to-day. A regulation made under that Act,and gazetted in 1924 prescribes that drugs which are included in the latest edition, with the amendment, of the British Pharmacopoeia shall conform to the descriptions and tests respectively prescribed therein, unless" otherwise standardised; ’ and Mr Page’s decision was that the words “ latest edition ” meant the latest edition at the time the regulations were made, and that accordingly the standard _ required in New Zealand for drugs is that prescribed hy the 1914 edition. “If it is considered desirable to adopt in New Zealand the standard for drugs prescribed in the new 1932 edition a regulation to that effect can be made,’’ added the magistrate. The' defendant was. Frank Rathboue, grocer, and the substance was liquid' paraffin. It was held that no offence had been committed.
