' RUGBY REFEREE TACKLES BURGLARS [Pa* Ukitm Pjubs Amocia.tiok.l AUCKLAND, June 18. The well-known Rugby referee, Mt Fred Meuli, formerly of Wanganui, was struck on the head ■ with, an electric torch when he surprised two burglars in a store at Ohinewai early, this morning. At 4 o’clock he was awakened by the noise of a breaking window, and arising saw the outlines of two men, whom he attacked. He was struck on the head with the torch and dazed; and, recovering, saw • light motor car disappearing.
