THE DOUBLES
CRAWFORD AND QUIST WIN PARIS, June 17. (Received Jime 18, at 10 a.m.) In the doubles Crawford and Quist defeated Borotra'and Brugnon, 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 4-6, 6-3. After a great match, conspicuous in the early stages for safety tactics rather than brilliancy, Crawford and Quist put Australia one ahead in the Davis Cuptie against France. The match lasted two and a-quarter hours. Throughout the first two sets Crawford and Quist combined splendidly, returning everything ‘accurately. Against there tactics Borotra failed repeatedly, netting the easiest of balls, winch eventually caused the downfall of France. Neither Frenchman gave the slightest glimpse of the form that won the French doubles championship. The Australians were undisturbed by the crowd, which was quieter than yesterday, or by occasional faulty decisions. The Frenclunen were superior in the third and fourth sets, largely because the Australians lost some of their former accuracy. Crawford and Quist forced the pace in the final set, in which Borotra again lost his touch and netted frequently. Quist, who was the best player on the court throughout, served in the last game and won the final point, aceing Borotra. i
