OBITUARY
HISS I. TURNBULL '. . f The death occurred at her home in Roslyn early this week of Miss Isabella Turnbull. Miss Turnbull was born at Glasgow, and at an early age travelled with her parents to Melbourne, where she was educated at the East Melbourne School. In 1850, while still a child, she came to New Zealand. " She was as a teacher at Dunedin, and became infant mistress at the Kaikorai School. : Tn 1885 she was appointed infant mistress at George Street School, a position she held until her retirement in 1911. While at George Street School she. specialised in the teaching "bf music and drawing." Miss Turnbull took great delight in orderliness, and her, ideals of life and conduct were of the highest. She imbued her young with a, profound sense of the moral importance of their work, and they always left her presence with fresh courage and a conviction of success, inspired, not so much by what she had said" as by what she herself was.
Miss Turnbull never forgot the smallest detail of the lives within her large circle of acquaintances, nor .did • she ever • lose touch with ■ the graces of life. Her courtesies and varied kindnesses were manifold. She seemed to plan her days, her hours, and even her minutes so that none was ever wasted ; a diligence which with an intuitive delicacy was applied to the relief of such family burdens as she divined to be heavy. Such service as was embodied in Miss Turnbull’s career forms a contribution to the public weal that is difficult to estimate.
