MANCHESTER UNITY

The half-yearly meeting of Loyal Caversham .Juvenile Lodge was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Forbury Corner, there being a large attendance of members, while a number of visiting brethren from Loyal Albion Juvenile Lodge were also present, a cordial welcome being extended to the visitors by the N.G. The election of officers took place, and after keen competition, necessitating several ballots, the following were elected for the ensuing six months;—N.G., Bro. J. Grey; V.G., Bro. D. W. Nowata; E.S , Bro. IS. Keane; warden, Bro. W. M‘Lachlan ; guardian, Bro. J. Milne. P.G Bro. W. M'Keuzie wa» reappointed conductor. The Juvenile Council, beaded by Vice-president Bro J. Millar and P.D.G.M. Bro. J. D. Cameron, was present, and with the assistance of visiting brethren,'carried out the installation of the new officers. The members of the council later spoke to the boys, and issued an appeal in connection with the membership campaign which is now being conducted. Responses to the visitors’ toast were received from Caversham, Princess Mary, and Albion Juvenile Lodges, the evening closing with supper. The Loyal Centenary Lodge met in the Wesley Street Hall, N.G. Bro. F Hebhard presiding over a fair number of metnbers and visiting brethren.. P.G. Bro. J.'Hartstonge was appointed to the Handbook Committee, the V.G. and E.S. being delegates to collaborate in drawing up next year’s syllabus for the handbook. Nominations for office were opened. ‘ The lodge adjourned at an early hour to play the third and final round of the annual card tournament. The winner was Bro. J. Jones, with an aggregate of 317 pionts. Bros. G M’Allan (313) and J. Wedderspoou (306) being second and third. _ The N.G. presented a trophy to the winner. The half-yearly summoned meeting of Loval Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge was held iu the Council Chambers, Lawrence, w’hen there was a large attendance of members. N.G. Bro. L.,Garo was iu the chair. The. election of officers for the half-year resulted;—N.G., Bro. W. J. Simpson; V.G., Bro Duthie; E.S. Bro. Fleming; G.M.. Bro. G Gare. ‘ The shield won at the southern area initiation competition was On view, and the hope was expressed that the officers would endeavour to retain the shield next year to place in the new lodge room. . , .. . T , At the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Mosgiel Lodge N.G. Bro. H. T. Wright presided. Two candidates were initiated Per. Secretary Bro. 11. Wylie was appointed to represent the lodge on the official Handbook Committee. Nominations for office were held oyer until next lodge night. The evening was devoted to entertaining the juvenile branch, and the N.G. welcomed a full muster of the Taieri Juvenile Lodge. A pleasant social hour was spent in harmony, and several competitions were held, prizes being awarded to the following boys:—Bro. W. Kingan (quoits), Bro. A. Brown (bun eating), and Bro. K. Scurr, the latter’s recitation being adjudged the best item of the evening. At the close of the evening P.G. Bro. W. Kingan, on behalf of the juveniles, thanked the memlyars of the senior lodge for their hospitality, the visitors then being entertained to supper. . The Loyal Albion Lodge met in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, N.G. Bro. •(). A. Varcoe presiding over a large muster of members. Among visiting brethren were members of the Loyal Tuapeka, Pioneer, and Loyal Addington Lodges. The oldest member of the lodge, P.G. Bro. J. Carrington, was present, and the N.G. congratulated him on that day completing 63 years as a member of the Albion Lodge. Two candidates were initiated and one proposition for membership was received. The half-yearly election and installation of officers will bo held next lodge night, and good nominations were received for the various offices. The lodge adjourned to carry out “ ladies’ evening,” which took the form of a progressive euchre tournament. There was a very large attendance, and an enjoyable series of games resulted in Mrs M'Allan winning the first prize, second prize going to Miss Knight. The men’s trophy was won by Bro. A. M’Dougall. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Caversham Lodge P.G. Bro. J. Stevenson presided over a good attendance of members. It was resolved to invite the district officers to conduct the installation. of officers next lodge night. P.G. Bro. Milllar reported on the installation at the Juvenile Lodge, and thanked those members who had supported the lodge. At the close of business members "Wore the guests if Permanent Secretary Bro. J. List at a card evening. Prize-winners were Bro. Croy 1, Bro. Kearns 2, Bro. Snooks 3, P.G. Bro. J. Russell (booby).
