The Marino Department advises that vessels making for the Napier roadstead should bring the lighted leading beacons into line bearing 282 deg when at a distance of four miles and a-half from the front one, and steer for them on this bearing until Ahuriri lighthouse bears 218 deg (or the inner harbour eastern pier light turns white) ; then alter course to about 263 deg and pass 100 ft south of the flashing buoy (008 deg 13.5 cables from Ahuriri lighthouse), and then return on a 307 deg course to the line of beacons, which should be followed until near the anchorage. Vessels of lesser draught than 22ft may, instead of passing southward of the buoy, continue on the line of beacons until near the anchorage. Any devia-
tion'from the above tracks .rendered necessary should, if possible, be made to the southward.
Vessels bound for the Breakwater Harbour at Napier should follow the foregoing directions for vessels of 22ft draught and over until near the flashing buoy, when they should steer as necessary to bring the wharf leading lights in line. The latter should then be kept in line until abreast of the inner, red buoy before manoeuvring to a berth. Vessels taking,a pilot should not proceed inward beyond Ahuriri lighthouse bearing 224 deg.
The red conical buoy northward of Auckland rock at Napier is ' moored 083 deg 197yds from its position on chart 2.513. A black cask buoy is moored 326 deg 400yds from the light at the end ■. of Glasgow wharf; A temporary white buoy for the dredger’s moorings is moored westward of the Glasgow wharf, and shifted as required.
The dredger Whakarire is working in the Napier Breakwater Harbour, .and exhibits.two black balls by day and two red lights by night, vertically disposed, on the side on which vessels should pass. Vessels should keep' clear of the moor, ings, which are laid and altered as required.
