DANGERS OF DIETING
Under-feeding is just as productive of ill-health as over-feeding. The latter, by over-working the • various organs that have to deal with the removal of waste, wears them out, until eventually they cannot do' their work. The former lowers the powers of resistance to diseases, especially those of the infective type, and renders the tissues unable to cope with invading germs. This is one reason why slimming has its dangers if it is overdone. It is wise to consult a doctor before you begin to reduce your diet. In many eases of rheumatism part of the treatment includes alterations in diet, but this should never be attempted without first taking advice about it. The poorly-nourished rheumatic subject might suffer considerable harm by tampering' with her diet, thus laying herself open to other troubles.
