FANCIERS’ SHOW

•• / KEEN PUBLIC INTEREST JUDGING OF DOGS COMPLETED A great deal of public interest is being taken in the annual show of the Dunedin Fanciers’ Club, the Br.ydone Hall being well attended yesterday. The judging of the dogs was completed in the afternoon. Commenting on the dogs other than terriers, the judge. Dr M'Killop.' of Christchurch, said that, taken all through, the exhibits displayed a high standard of breeding. -Although few in numbers, the sporting ■ dogs were particularly good, among them being the two best cocker spaniels in New Zealand or Australia—Ren wick Tangle and the Australian grand champion Renwick Gleam, both being litter sisters. The former bitch, which won the open class in - her section, was ultimately adjudged the best dog in the show.'an honour which she well merited, as she was one of the finest specimens of her breed that one could wish to see, and her ■ owner. Mr N. S. Brosnan. had every reason to be-proud of her. Another beautiful dog was Mr and Mrs Jory’s imported English champion rough-coated collie bitch Backwoods Flower, which was run-ner-up to Mr Brosnan’s bitch for championship honours. Mr F. W. Pollard, of Christchurch, who judged the terrier classes, said that he was a little disappointed in the general quality of the dogs. The Airedales perhaps, constituted _ the outstanding-section, the best specimen among the exhibits being Mr T. M. Betanett’s bitch Lady Walnut, which was well-coloured and very true to the (jest Airedale type. He regretted, said Mr Pollard, that no entries came forward in the wire-haired fox terrier section. These dogs were a very popular breed in New Zealand, and it was difficult to understand why more doglovers were not- going in for them. Mr Pollard expressed himself as , very much impressed by the keenness and sporting spirit jbbat prevailed among the exhibitors, all of whom took the decisions in .good part. .
