HERR HITLER IN ITALY
ARRIVAL AT VENICE CORDIAL RECEPTION Press Association—By Telegraph— Copyright. VENICE, June 14. In a giant all-metal plane, in which he was accompanied by Baron Von Neurath and a retinue of eight, Herr Hitler hew direct to the Lido airport from Munich, thus avoiding traversing Austrian territory by train. Two other planes preceded that of the Chancellor as a precaution, another following. Directly Herr Hitler landed the band played ‘ Deutschland Über Alles.’ Signor Mussolini, surrounded by Blacnshirts, cordially welcomed the visitor in German. Herr Hitler replied in subdued tones. Both embarked in a motor launch bound for Venice, where tlitre wore no naval salutes, but aeroplanes made an imposing escort'. Crowds shouting “ Viva!” greeted Herr Hitler at the Grand Hotel, from w, ic.. «« will go to the Villa Pisanai as the guest of II Duce for lunch. CONVERSATIONS COMMENCE ISSUES NARROWED DOWN. VENICE, June 14. (Received June 15, at 11.45 a.m.) Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini entered Venice like two princes. Standing in a launch the dictators traversed the basin of the Grand Canal, followed by a long procession of boats. Crowds watched the procession of medieval splendour. The Dictators conversed in the afternoon for 150 minutes. Signor Mussolini became so fluent that an interpreter was unnecessary. The other delegates toured the city. The utmost secrecy is being preserved. It is understood that the issues have been narrowed down to disarmament, the League, and the Danubiau question. Italy is understood to support the German claim to a certain degree of armament, but is anxious to • avoid a new armaments race. She is also anxious for Germany to return to ~ the League. ,
