CONCERT AT MOSGIEL

The Mqsgiel Presbyterians and many friends outside the congregation were treated to ah excellent sacred concert last night in the church. The choir rendered the sacred cantata ‘ The Rolling Seasons ’ (Caleb Simper), and several local and visiting musicians and vocalists added items. The Rev. Hugh Graham acted a? chairman. The choir was conducted by Mr Skinner, with Miss Gi'eta Logan at the piano and Miss Jean Hendmg at the organ. The concert was opened with the following items:—Anthem (‘Sun of My Soul’), choir; solo (‘ 0 Lord God of Abraham’), Mr N. P. Sansom; violin solo (‘ Meditation ’), Mr C. Logan; solo (‘ Fear Not Ye, 0 Israel,’ Buck), Miss B. Rawlinson; musical monologues, Miss P. Mitchell; solo (‘ With Verdure Clad.’ Haydn), Miss P. Melrose; organ solos, Mr R. D. Rogers ; solo (‘ A Benediction ’), Mr R. Dunbar. The cantata formed the second part of the concert, and from the opening chorus, right through to the final one, it was an outstanding performance. Mr Skinner and his choir are to be congratulated on the effort. The solo parts were taken as follows; —Soprano, Miss P. Melrose; contralto, Miss B. Rawlinson, Mus. Bac.; tenor, Mr R. Dunbar; bass, Mr N. F. Samson. The introductory chorus Is named ‘ Fear Not, 0 Land,’ and is followed by a bass solo, ‘Be Not Afraid.’ Then follows a splendid chorus, ‘ Be Glad Then, Yo Children of Zion.’ The most effective chorus came in part three, ‘ Jehovah’s Awful Throne.’ The outstanding portion of the fourth section was the duet and chorus ■ 0 Thou That Hearest Prayer.’ The cantata concluded with a raagnificient chorus, ‘ Thou Crownest the Year.’
