BASKETBALL
KHOSK-OUT COMPETITION A uniformly high standard of performance was provided by the thirtyeight teams which took part in the knock-out baseball tournament held under the auspices of the Otago Basketball Association in the Drill Hall last night. One of the best games of the evening was given in the final of the A grade section between Ex-Girls’ High I. and Albany 1., the latter team winning a very close contest by 6-5. Miss Macdonald proved a very reliable shoot for Albany, and netted a good goal in the first half to give her side the lead, but after that stage Ex-Girls improved greatly, and both teams were evenly matched until the final whistle. The surprise of this section was the defeat of the strong University side by i),EC. Owing to small entries, the men’s games; wore of longer duration than the women's matches. A popular innovation was the playing of a match between the winners of the ladies’ and the men’s A grade sections. The following referees officiated Mrs E. M'Augtrio, Mrs U. Sunderland, Miss R. Mackenzie, Messrs J. Breeze, W. Hamilton, L. Gain, and F. Bartlett. Results: — SECTION A. —First Round.— Albany J. 14, Blue Triangle 4. Caversham 8, University 7. Ex-Girls I. 17, Blue Bird 5. J. U.
