LONDON CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATIONS TO EMPIRE PRODUCERS Tress Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, June 13. (Received dime 14, at 11 a.m.) The Fruit Conference has concluded. A statement was issued that _an arrangement had been made to improve the distribution of apples and pears in Britain without increasing the retail prices. It was agreed to urge growers throughout the Empire to adopt a standard of packing, grading, and nomenclature, to eliminate und'bsirable varieties, and to ensure regular supplies of the best Empire fruit. It was also decided to establish a permanent London committee, to be associated with the Empire producers’ organisation, to maintain and develop co-operation. A British delegate said he realised that England was a market for the whole Empire in respect to apples and pears. He anticipated closer future cooperation. INCREASED PROTECTION TO BE DEMANDED LONDON, June 13. (Received June 14, at 11 a.m.) A ‘ Sun-Herald ’ message states: The National Farmers’ Union is shortly approaching the Government seeking increased protection, inter alia, on fruit. This action follows last year’s apple shipments from Australia and New Zealand. particularly the latter, which continued until late August, thus depressing the home-grown market.
