A KING SPEAKS
" WE DO NOT WANT WAR " LONDON, May 30. . “ Of course, the international position is greatly strained, forcing us to incur heavy military expenditure when we would rather spend the money in other, ways, but I do not think any country wants war. I don’t! ” said King Alexander of Yugoslavia to the - Manchester Guardian ’ at Belgrade. “ War means destruction. We Yugoslavs want only peace and reconstruction. There arc certain movements working in various countries, but, luckily, many courageous men are working for peace-and hotter international relations.” King Alexander hoped for the inclusion of Bulgaria, Greece, and Albania in the present Balkan pact, to prevent the Balkans from again becoming the pawns of the great Powers. His country was negotiating a trade pact with Germany, but would continue, its support of the League and remain true to its allies, France and the Little Entente.
