HIDING IN LONDON?
AMERICA'S ELUSIVE CRIMINAL DILLINGER SCOTLAND YARD ACTION. LONDON, May 29. A tremendous comb-out was conducted in .London by detectives, specially armed, after a report had been received that the notorious American gangster, Dillinger, was in hiding. Scotland Yard mobilised its entire flying squad and requisitioned radio cars from twenty-three London divisions. The Scotland Yard chiefs held (h conference, after which a ring was made around London with, a special and searching comb-out south of the Thames. Many rumours had recently reached the British police about Dillinger. They .were not taken seriously until to-day’s authentic information. All cars were in constant wireless communication .with headquarters, and messages were continually flashed from district to district. A man who knew Dillinger well in the United States declared he saw. him in London last week, and gave a detailed statement to the detectives, but the authorities at Washington are convinced that Dillinger is still in the United States.
