PORT CHALMERS AFFAIRS
FIRE BOARD MEETING At the Port Chalmers Fire Board meeting last night it was reported that there had been no fires in the town during the past quarter. The purchase of a new motor fire engine was discussed. The members present were Messrs A. Campbell (chairman), H. A. B. Brabant, E. H. Ferguson, F. Smith, and G. F. Mirams. The Minister of Internal Aflairs had approved of the board’s estimate and endorsed them to that effect.—Received. The City Electrical Engineer advised that Mr G. M'Downll was available to cut off the power in case of fire, unless he were away from the station reading meters in the borough of Sawyers Bay. Apart from the latter he would render every possible assistance in case of emergency.—A member; Is there any record of Mr M'Dowall being instructed to that effect? —Letter received. The brigade’s report for the past quarter stated that the motor and gear were in the usual condition. Meetings had been well attended. There had been no fires. The superintendent and his deputy had inspected a picture theatre and 'found everything satisfactory. The brigade took part in Anzac parade and in demonstrations during fire prevention week. —The Chairman said it was well to hear there had been no fires. Unfortunately the weather was not favourable during fire prevention week.—The report was received. In connection with obtaining a new motor fire engine, the members of the board decided to obtain further details of and inspect motors which had been placed under offer to the board.
