HURRICANE VICTIMS

MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND DEAD SALVADOR AND HONDURAS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright VANCOUVER, Juuoil. The hurricane which swept Central America last week, accompanied by floods and landslides, killed at least 2,-500 persons, and probably many more according to belated reports from El Salvador and Honduras received to-day. Whole villages were wiped out by landslides from the volcanic mountains of El Salvador, according to reliable reports after a partial survey from the air. The death roll in the vicinity, of San Salvador, the capital, is placed at at least 2,000, and a report from the village of Ocotepeque, in Honduras, stated that the storm killed 600. The hurricane reached its highest intensity on Thursday, wiping out ordinary means of communication in El Salvador and damaging the international railroad of South America to an extent requiring three months for repairs.

The heavy rain storm accompanying the hurricane washed down the sides of the volcanic mountains, causing the lakes and rivers to rise over their banks and imperilling with floods those who managed to flee from the landslides.
