RETURNED SOLDIERS’ AFFAIRS
DUNEDIN ASSOCIATION MEETS Mr A. Thomas presided at a meeting of th.e Executive Committee of the Dunecliu Returned Soldiers’ Association last night. , The Secretary, reported that, nominations for twenty-nine new members had been received,; one transfer, inward granted, anti three • deaths recorded. One of the deceased members was Mr Charles E. Cook, the association’s foreman at Chisholm Park, and he would be hard, to replace; The customary resolution of sympathy was recorded. Figures: of the, membership campaign showed that the Dunedin Association stood at 1,255, as against 1,047' registered by Christchurch. • On behalf of the Unemployment Committee Mr A. M'Hutcheon reported that a handsome donation of '547 101 b tins of jam had been received ■ from Roxburgh. The .Chairman said he was pleased to report that the Poppy Day funds'now totalled £2,011. ! . A copy of the N.Z.II.S.Ai annual eport for the year ended' March 31, 1934, came before the meeting, arid Mr A. M‘Hutcbeon pointed out that members would be interested to'know that returned soldiers comprised 20'per cent, of -the total registered unemployed. ■ Tramway passes for 100 disabled soldiers had again been granted by the City Corporation, reported, the .secretary.: ■ ' Intimation was / received from the Otago Patriotic Society that an executive committee meeting would be held on June. 19,’ and a discussion ensued in committee on the operations 'of the Claims and Finance Committees.
