ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The thirteenth annual meeting of the John APHlasban o|d C'o|legian§’ Association was held in the Somerset Lounge of the Savoy last night. The president (Mr A. 11. Harris) was in the chair, and there was a largo attendance of me in hers. The Chairman extended a welcome to the'principal (Mr C, M. Gilray), Mr J, A, Limning, Air C. Gray (past president), and new mem hers, of wiiom twenty-four had enrolled during the year- It was pleasing to note that ttfe functions of the association were being so well supported, and he stated that by numerical strength and co-operation the old boys could make their fijafk in the community. Thunks were due to the present executive, which had rendered valuable assistance and had always been willing to carry out whatever was necessary. AXXUAL UKPOUT. The annual report stated, inter ahathat the total membership ®f the association was now ' 171. The year had been a most satisfactory ope, and all the usual functions had been held- The attendances on each occasion had show n a marked improvement, and interest generally had been greater than in the past. Negotiations were already afoot to firmly establish an Invercargill branch, and two very successful dinners and meetings had already been held. This was a decided step forward in the history of the association. It wag with regret that the death of an old hoy, Air T. M‘Gregor, had to be recorded. Sympathy was extended to his parents and brother, who was also an ex-pupil of the college. The football and cricket matches with the college had been played on the King’s Birthday and Anniversary Hay respectively, and in both cases resulted in wins for the Old Boys, who wcfe also successful in the debate. The essay prizes were won by Messrs C. G. Martin (senior) and J. G. MVKellar (junior). Thanks were due to Messrs Macdonald and Elder for their work in marking the papers. It was with mixed feelings of pleasure and regret that they loannt pf Mr Gdray’s appointment to the headmastorship < f Soots College, Melbourne, and his consetpient retirement from his present office. On gaining such an important and responsible position they congratulated . him most heartily, and wished him every good fortune in bis future work, The balance-sheet showed an increase of £4 9s 10d on the year’s workings. Mr A. Gray moved the adoption c.l the report and balance-sheet, and paid a tribute to the secretary (Air 11. H. B. Paterson) for the able manner in which he had carried out his duties during his five years of office.The report was then adopted. GENERAL.

Mr C- M. Udray was appointed an honorary life member of the association, The following motion was tabled rn behalf of Mr J. t', White, of Welling* ton:—r“ That the annual subscription of 7s Gel be reduced to 4s in the case of any. member who, during the year fpr which the subscription Is payable, resides at a greater distance of not less than thirty miles from punedin, provided that such member is prevented from attending the functions qf the association during that period,” d comprehensive report was submit ted by Mr Wh'te in. support of the proposed alteration, it was stated that its effect would serve to lower the subscriptions of members living, further than the above mileage from this city. The subscriptions fur such members was at present inequitable, and the reduction would benefit the association's membership and also its financial status. Mr A, 0. Jiegg moved as an amend* menW-“ That the annual subscription of 7s 6d be reduced to 4s in the case of any member.” A lengthy discussion ensued, it being finally decided to allow the present danse in the constitution to stand.
