EARLY SETTLERS
MEETING of association The monthly meeting of the committee of the Utago Early Settlers’ Association was held yesterday afternoon. There wore present: —Messrs J.. J. Mallard (president, in the chair), James Brown, F W. Knight, W. J. Strong, A. ,F. Choyno, James Wallace, W. H. Kerens, E. Webster, R. S. J. A. Macdonald, W. Nicolson, -E. O. Hazlett, H. Ban ,i, and A. Eccjes. On the motion of the president it was unanimously resolved that a letter be sent to the Minister of Internal Affairs requesting that the Otago Early Settlers* Museum be included in the itinerary of H.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester when ho visits Dunedin. The following gifts were received, and votes of thanks were passed to the donors i—From the late Mrs Sidney Hqigh, Roslyu: Large oil painting, Dunedin in 186*2, by the late Peter Power. Miss E. L. Clark (per A. If. Valentine, Dunedin): Model of Vicksburg, arrived Port Chalmers 1864 and 1867. H. Wiki, Dunedin: Two pennies joined to form a plunger for a pump, found when pitching a camp at Hindoo. J, W- Todd, Roslyu: Framed portraits of his late parents,' Mp and Mrs William Tojd, Roslyu (Pladda, 1861). Robert L. Banks, Dunedin: A walking stick cut by himself when a survey cadet. This was presented by his father to the Rev. Dr D, M. Stuart, who used it a good mnpy years, Mrs E. L. Kelly, Wellington: Model in glass case of selfsupporting circular staircase. This was made by her father, George Palmer, Cavcrsham, and was exhibited in the Dunedin Exhibition, 1880-1890. Members of the family, per G. M'Naughton, Invercargill ; Framed portraits of his grandparents, Mr raid Mrs George S. Hush, Invercargill (Sevilla, 1862). Mrs Peter Jeukips, Maori f-Iil}: Framed portraits of her fate husband and of herself (Air Jenkins, Challenger, 1856; Mrs Jenkins, Ethereal, 1864). George Thomson, Dunedin: Photograph of Dunedin early 1860’s, also photo of Water of Leith, Dunedin, early 1870’s, photo of ship Main Bhan, aud a wire reel as used oh the old reapers and hinders. FI. S. Bingham, Dunedin: Four panoramic: views of Dunedin, These were taken by himself from the top of First Church steeple while the church was' being renovated ; also photo of steeple showing scaffolding. W. A. Cunninghame, Kyeburp: Chinese coin found by himself on the 1 Kyehifrn goldfields, 1933, W.
