BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING [From Ode Correspondent,] The monthly meeting of the Cromwell Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening last, there being present J\!r C. \W. J. Roberts (mayor), Messrs C. C. Sanders, Wm. Murray. J, L. Stewart Wright, L. M. Jolly, F. W'. Partridge, and J. T. Hosldng. The Public Trustee wrote as trustee in the estate of W, A. H. Selleib asking for an undertaking that the estate’s interest in the improvements will.be recognised by the council.. It was agreed to give a twenty-one-years’ lease. Cr Brown was granted a lease or section 9, block 45. Town of Cromwell. On the application of Mr W., Murray it was decided to form a footpath in front of three recently-erected houses in Cromwell street. Bennie S. Cohen and Son wrote offering special concessions hi the matter of insurances.—Received. The secretary, Vincent Hospital Board, wrote giving notice of the board’s levy on local authorities, the council’s apportionment being £jp 10s for the year. J. L. Poppelwell, solicitor, Core, wrote on behalf of a client .inquiring what arrangements could be made for Die permanent care of graves in the Cromwell Cemetery.—Resolved that the position be explained, ant! that Mr Poppelwell be advised the council was considering making arrangements under which graves could be attended to. . , ■ Mr F, W. Partridge, chairman ot.tlie Water Committee, reported that Firewood Creek water was in good supply, anti he had arranged to cut off some of the water coming in by the Mount Pisa race to mitigate the possibility of damage to the race by frost. Cr W Mufrav. reporting for the works Committee', said that a great, deal of the work authorised at last, meeting had been completed, and he was hopeful of effecting an agreement with the Vincent County Council for the hire of a power grader to grade lip the streets in the town. The ladies’ rest room was also nearing completion, and the Works Committee, was authorised to erect a picket fence on the section adjoining the same. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the council on Monday evening to further consider the question of the lease of the borough endowment.
MINES UHDER-SECRETARY'S VISIT Mr A. Tyndall (Under Secretary of Mines), in company with Dr E. Marsden of the Department of Scientific ancf Industrial Research, was in Cromwell on Thursday morning and while there made a visit to the Now Cornish .-Point. Mines'Ltd., where the geophysical survey party is making further seismic observations..
