EMPIRE’S LEADING RADIO ARTISTS

PERFORM IN FILM FOR ST. JAMES A definite departure from the usual film entertainment, ‘ On the Air,’ one of the latest British productions, trill commence at the St. James on Tuesday. It is really a first-class vaudeville presentation, for beside an exceptionally strong cast of film players items are given by a number of the Empire’s leading radio artists. Herbert Smith, the producer, has ingeniously invented a wisp of a story which makes the action run smoothly and continuously. Roy Fox and his celebrated band known to listeners all the world over, give one of the outstanding performances. The film opens with the Roy Fox Band about to give a recital at Broadcasting House, and two of the well-known Dave Burnaby and Reginald Purdell, are starting on a holiday. They stay at a country inn, with Betty Astell as the obliging barmaid, and Anona Winn as the maid-servant. Hero they are recognised and _ persuaded to take part in the local village concert. It is in this palatial parish hall that the varied series of turns are enacted. It is an extremely wellbalanced combination, in which every taste is catered for, and every act performed with smart precision.
