'THE DOVER ROAD'

The performance of ‘ Rope ’ last year by members of the Otago University Dramatic Society will be remembered for its high standard of amateur acting. This year the society’s choice is to be A. A. Milne’s comedy ' The Dover Road,’ familiar to most of those interested in contemporary drama.

The play itself bears an obvious contrast to ‘ Rope,' and is no- less enjoyable. It is enough to say that it js a typically A. A. Milne creation, combining witty dialogue with a light and whimsical plot, and ,in spite of the irresponsible treatment contriving to convince the listener that perhaps there is a serious lesson to be learned after all. The theme, “Marry in haste . , is not altogether a new one, but the author knows himself well enough to rely on his capable and original treatment to carry off a variation of this motif with delightful effect. In securing the services of Miss Bessie Thomson for the production of the play the students have found the best that Dunedin can offer, and she will have no lack of scope in the talent at her disposal. The performance is enterprisingly billed for three nights instead of the usual two —Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 21, 22, and 23.
