GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Messrs Donald Reid and Co. Ltd. report as follows: . Wheat.—Odd samples are still arriving on the market.’ Local millers have completed their allotments in most varieties. Hunters, in particular, cannot now be disposed of to millers, and samples have to be forwarded to the Wheat Board 'in Christchurch. When the wheat is ' up to the standard required it is purchased on behalf of the board and stored on their account until it be finally disposed of, probably at thd end of the present season. June values' are: Tuscan, 3s 8d; Hunters, 3s TOd; Velvet 4s (sacks extra), f.0.b., Dunedin. Fowl wheat is in plentiful supply this season, and merchants are offering 3s per bushel (sacks extra) for large parcels, on trucks, in the country. Ex store prices for small lots range up to 3s 9d per bushel (sacks extra). Oats.—This market is at present in a .very depressed state. Millers ap.p6ar';tO' liave ample stocks, ana. are only suffering from the choicest lots. Ordinary A and 6 grade can only be sold at a. very cheap rate, which farmers are not inclined to’ accept. The shipping ■ value to-day is as low as 2s 4Jd for A grade and 2s for B grade, f 0.b., s.i. Merchants would need to purchase at Is lid and Is 7d respectively in store, Dunedin, to show a small margin of profit. The O.T. prices to’farmers ares Is 8d for A grade and Is 5d for B grade (sacks extra). .Qhaff.—There is ample chaff available for all inquiries, Prime quality receives the most attention, and this is saleable at prices up to £4 5s (sacks extra), ex store. Very little business is now transacted ex truck. Medium and inferior, of which there is a superfluity; can be purchased ex store at prices ranging from £3 to £3 10s (sacks eX Potatoes.—Farmers are completing digging whenever weather conditions allow. : Consignments now arriving are carrying a lot of soil, , and merchants require an allowance in weight when purchasing. The market shows no immediate signs of improvement, and with consignments arriving from all quarters prices have eased again. Top value is £3 15f, ex truck, Dunedin; £4 is the equivalent ex store price, with a little extra being paid for choice lots. The shipping rate vanes from £3 10s to £3 15s, all this business being done ,at Timaru or Lyttelton. No shipping has yet been done from this port.
