President Roosevelt to-day asked Congress for 525,000,000d0l to financethe drought relief programme alreadyundertaken by the Administration. The President has asked for absolute free., dom to spend the money as the Administration sees fit. The appropriation provides for an outlay of 125,000,000d0l for a special works programme and human relief; 75.000. for purchases of live stock; 100,000,000d0l for the purchase and processing of cattle for distribution in relief works; 100,000,000d0l for emergency loans to farmers; 50,000,000. dollars for the acquisition of sub-mar-ginal lands and the relocation of desti. tute farmers ' and their families j 50.000. for emergency work camps; and 25,000,000d0l for seed purchases. ‘ ' . Various Government agencies have already taken prompt and vigorous action, but the continued shortage of rainfall has made the situation more serious.
