Following urghigs by megaphone from an upstairs window in the N.U.W.M. building, a .band of about fifty, led by women, issued from the premises and proceeded, up the footpath for a' short distance. They, then moved to the road with banners to form a procession. They were informed by a polios sergeant that they must disband, but attempted ,to proceed, whereupon constables who had been patrolling the footpath qfme out to break up the demonstration. When resistance was offered five men were arrested and taken to the police station in motor cars. Various charges will be preferred. The police, under Inspector Rawle, dealt' speedily with events, and soon conditions in the street were almost normal. »
