ST. HILDA QUEEN CARNIVAL

The closing stages of the St. Kilda Queen Carnival, which was organised for the purpose of raising funds for beach improvement in that district, have been full of interest, and -the announcement of the final result of the competition is eagerly awaited. This announcement will be made at a few minutes past 10 o’clock p.m. on Saturday next, the 16th inst., at the Coronation Hall, St. Kilda, this being the last night of the carnival fair, which is to mark the finish of activities extending over many weeks. The four competing queens are: Sports Queen (Miss R. Barton), Surf Queen (Miss C. Idour), Tramways Queen (Miss Agnew), and Municipal Queen (Miss S. Quirk), and each of these is to preside over a well-stocked stall, but patrons are also to be entertained with highly attractive programmes of music, singing, comedy, dancing, etc. Special provision is being made for juveniles on Saturday afternoon, one important item being a fancy dress competition, which is to be judged by “ Big Brother Bill,” and for which prizes will be awarded. The fair will be open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evvenings, and on Friday and Saturday afternoons of next week. Admission to the _ afternoon sessions is free, and a nominal charge will be made in the evenings. On Wednesday evening nest the Commercial Travellers’ Entertainers will give one of their justly-popular variety concerts in the St. Kilda Coronation Hall, with a dance to follow. The offerings of this little party of gifted artists are invariably of a bright and entertaining type, and on this occasion a special effort is being made in support of the Municipal Queen.
