SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS NEARLY COMPLETED AloH of tlio matches in Ihe Soulli Island lawn tennis championships were brought to a conclusion yesterday, and as Saturday was largely wasted owing to the rain the officials are to be congratulated on the way they got matches off. The most interesting game yesterday, a tternoon was that between Angas, of Christchurch, and the Otago champion, ADDougali, in the final ol’ the men’s singles championship. Although Angas seemed From the scores to have a comparatively easy win, he- had to tight For his points. ]t was Angas’s nippiness that really won him the match, and he made some remarkable recoveries. Angas Frequently mameuvred ADDougali out of position, and then sent down a side-lino shot which, beat him. His accuracy was almost uncanny, and lie kept APDougaU on tinrun. Angas endeavoured lo come up to the net on every possible occasion, but by means of high lobs ADDougali drove him back. There were many exciting rallies in the gam© which received hearty applause From a large number of spectators. The final of the men’s doubles championship was a. keen contest between Angas and Boddy and Bray and Wilkinson. The latter pair started off well, but their opponents’ forceful tactics boat (hem.
