Tii© Nationalist column, which is moving on Hankow, on the north hank of the Yangtse, suffered a reverse at Lolien, where the Wu Han forces are heavily entrenched in the mountain passes. Chiang Kai-shek, however, who is always accompanied hy German military advisers, confidently expects to bring about the collapse of the Wu Han forces this week. Rear-admiral Tweedie, who is in charge of tho Yangtse patrol, asks for additional men from tho worship Cumberland for the purpose of defending British lives ami property in the former concession of Hankow. He is also consulting tho Japanese commander how to divert the retreating troops from tho concessions in order to prevent looting.—United Service.
