HARBOUR SWIM

MISS COPPLESTONE’S ATTEMPT FAILS Miss Lily Copplestone failed on Saturday in an effort to swim across Wellington Harbour. She covered about three miles, being in the water about two and a-half ho'urs. The water was too rough and cold and choppy. Miss Copplestone was accompanied part of the way by Miss K. Miller, Miss Lambert, and G. Rose. Miss Copplestone was not distressed when taken out of the water. The accompanying boat was not large enough to afford her any protection, as it went along on the windward side. The day was very cold and unsuitable for distance swimming. The Eastbourne Borough Council's Muritai, which took passengers to view the race, had diifliculty in getting clear of the ferry wharf. It was swung by the wind on to the Wahine, and grazed along half that vessel’s length before getting clear. There was no damage to either vessel.
