(Received April ], at 11 a.m.) During a dense fog the 17,000 ton Anchor liner Transylvania, . when approaching Cherbourg after a six weeks’ Mediterranean cruise, struck the rock of La Coque, off Capo de la Hague, early on Thursday morning. 'The accident is attributed to tho exceptionally strong currents prevailing in this particularly dangerous portion of the Normandy coast. The vessel had 300 passengers on board. She sprang a leak and began to list heavily, and assistance was summoned. By jettisoning 500 tons of oil fuel and by skilful handling tho Transylvania was .able to make Cherbourg Harbour without help and without any injury to the passengers or crew. Perfect order was maintained, and (lie resource of Captain Erskino was highly praised by all. It was his last trip in command of the Transylvania, and lie was duo to retire on reaching sgiaiid.
