MATCHES AT CARISSR3OK Two THigby matches were played at Carisbrook on Saturday, one between Kaikorai amt Pirates (Invercargill), and the other between the local Pirates team and the Christchurch. The first game was won by a narrow margin bv the visiting team, but in the second match Pirates won easily. While the match between Kaikorai and Invercargill Pirates was not productive of much spectacular play. Hie contest between Pirates and Christchurch was a fast and interesting one, with a quality of football on the part of the winners that is not often shown in an _ Easter game. The display of the Pirates backs, young and keen, augurs, well for the forthcoming football season in Dunedin. ' Play in the Kaikorai-Pirates game was mostly confined to the forwards, and there was little between the merits of tbe sides. Half time ended with the score (i to U in favour of the visitors. 'The local Pirates commenced the game with Christchurch with spirited dash, and in the first ten minutes had registered S points. Play was fast and open, the local boys proving too elusive and quick for the opposition. Tbo score at half time read: Pirates Hi, Christchurch f>. Again in the second spell Pirates proved their superiority. One try came as the result of spectacular in-and-out passing, and another try was gained at the end of a splendid dribbling rush in which the forwards backed up one another well.
