Tins is in regard to the danger of elephants on tho highways after dark.’ and it is hoped that such beasts should be compelled to carry front and rear lights! Of course this does not refer to the wild elephant, but to the useful beasts of burden in the charge of a mahout. Perhaps the suggestion will he followed by a proposal that elephants should he taught to hoot through their trunks when approaching a corner, hut their dignified pace is hardly likely to make, it necessary to impose the rule of hooting when passing another object on the road!
