DOMIHIDN CHAMPIONS ENGAGED £Peh United Paisa Association. J DANNEVIRKE, March 30. . 'he twenty-sixth annual Dominion Draughts Congress was opened at Dannevirke on Friday by the ■“ on - E- A. Ransom (Minister of Public Works). . Three competitors at tho first New Zealand congress, in Wanganui, are taking part—Messrs Lyon and Gibson (Marton) and Bruce (New Plymouth). At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Draughts Association the report stated that there was evidence of a distinct revival of interest in the game throughout the dominion and more friendly feeling now existed between the Dominion and Australian Draughts Associations. Tho officers elected were:—Patron, Sir Robert Stout; president, Mr E. Gibbard (Dannevirke) ; vice-presidents, Messrs E. K. Kelling (Wellington), G. A. Brown (Christchurch), F. Hutchins (Invercargill), W. Davis (Stratford) ; General Executive —Messrs J. Beecot, P. C. Gray, R. Rotting, W. Meldrum, R. Muir, P. Petersen, W. Tibbies. W. B Randall, W. O’Malley (Dunedin), J O’Neill (Waitaki), J. Bruce (New Plymouth), D. Caldenvood (Hamilton). The next dominion tourney will be held at Invercargill. Tho results of the championship games to date are; — G. A. Brown (dominion champion), 2 wins and 2 pairs. D. Caldenvood, 2 wins, 1 draw. T. Gilhooly, 0 wins, 2 draws. .. E. Gibbard, 0 wins, 1 draw. Great interest centred in tbe game between Brown and Calderwood. Ihe Bristol Lassie came from the ba lot, and the champion adopted the 10-b) line. In the early stages Brown strongly attacked, but Caldenvood. bv introducing a brilliant gambit, gamed the upper hand, and the former had to exercise all his ingenuity to stare off defeat. After three and a-lialt hours the game ended in a draw. Results of the minor tournament are:—
