NEWSPAPER MAGNATES
ROTHERMERE AKD BEAVER3ROOK MAY BACK LLOYD GEORGE. Proas Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 27. There is every indication from the general featuring in the editorials ot Mr Lloyd George's speeches that the big group of London newspapers controlled 'by Lord Rothcnncre, ami possibly the group controlled by Lord Beaverbrook, will abandon the Conservatives and champion the Liberals in the coming election, unless the unlikely alteniativo proposal of a coalition advanced by tho Rothermere group i; adopted. Tlie ‘ Morning Post,’ the chief Ministerial organ, noting the tendency, says, editorially, to-day : “ From tlie general tone of these papers it seems moro than likely that the two magnates controlling them will (ind in Air .Lloyd George the man for their money. This is a great pity, for there is no doubt that this enormous Press must influence the thoughtless to a considerable extent, and may persuade them to a course which scorns to us suicidal. Men with such power ns is given these two . newspaper magnates by an inscrutable Providence should think twice or thrice. As for the proposal advanced by them that Air Baldwin should enter a coalition with Mr Lloyd George, well. Mr Lloyd George may bo able to hnllv tlie Liberal Party, but the Conservative Party is not for sale.”— Australian Press Association.
