FRUIT AND PRODUCE
Bray Bros., Ltd, Dunedin, report as follow’s for week ended to-day:— Consignments of chaff are on the light side. There is more than sufficient for the demand. Prices remain unchanged round about £6 per ton, sacks extra, for best quality. iNew chaff is now being offered in larger quantities from Canterbury. Lower quality is difficult to place. Most of tho inquiries are being received from millers and merchants who have to cover their forward sales for April delivery. Reports from Canterbury go to show that there is no alteration in the wheat market. , A fair quantity of free wheat has changed hands at the same values as rule here. Millers are holding fairly heavy stocks. The fowl wheat market is firm in Canterbury. The average quotation there for fowl wheat is round about 5s Del, f.0.b., sacks extra. There has been n little better inquiry from the North Island, as there is little elumeo of allowing outside wheat to compete against the South Island .grown. There has been a temporary finning up of the potato market owing to the hrdken weather. Merchants have bought more heavily than usual. Best quality is worth from £6 to £6 10s per ton, ox trucks. Once supplies of any quantity come in it is expected that the price, will recede, although some growers are looking forward to prices advancing Inter in the season. The onion market is a little firmer. Shipments have been made to Australia, and prices returned arc satis T factory. Everything points to the market finning. Some first-class samples have come forward from Canterbury. Tho egg market is firm. There is a shortage of eggs for the Easter requirements. Everything points to prices firming.
