ALLAN WILKIE

SEASON OPENS SATURDAY After an absence of eighteen months. Air Allan Wilkie Mill return lo Dunedin for a. throe weeks’ season, eomnieiu-ing on Saturday next at Mis Majesty's Theatre, when' 4 The ALerry Wives of Windsor ’ will be staged. The program mo Jor the first week has evidently been selected with an eye tu the holiday spirit, for, in addition to * The Merry Wives,’ three comedies figure in the bill—namely,* ‘ the 'faming ol I lie tshrew,’ ‘Twelfth Nigh!,’ and ‘As Aon Like It.’ Lu the course of the I hive, weeks no fewer than eighteen dill'ereiit plays are Jo ho presented, the chief interest centreing, perhaps, mi the lour that have not yet been staged by the company in Dunedin—‘ C’oriohnnis,’ ‘ -Much Ado About Nothing,’ ‘ All’s Well That- Ends Well,’ and ‘.King Lear.’ The latter was given recently in Auckland at a command performance before Jiis Excellency Iho Governor, and the enthusiastic _ reception it met with on that occasion marks it out as one of Air Allan W ilkic s outstanding successes. Dunedin' playgoers are not. unfamiliar with Air Wilkie’s portrayal of Sir John Falstalf, and will for that very reason be eager to renew acquaintance with what is possibly one of the most entirely satisfying of his interpretations in the realms of broad comedy. Miss Hunter-Watts, his talented leading lady, 't ill he seen as Aiistress Lord, and Aliss Benia Forbes, whose work is familiar and admired, will bo Mistress Page. A newcomer in the person of Alexander AlarAi, who makes his debut here with a big copulation to sustain, will ho seen as Alasler Ford.
