HOSPITALS OF OTAGO
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING The members of the Otago Hospital Board held their monthly meeting last evening. Those present were: Mr TV. Iff- S. Knight (chairman), Mrs Boas, Miss Runciman, Messrs Qnelcli, Dove, Morgan, M.‘Lennan, Scni'r, Larnach, and J)r Newlands. TTie Director-general of Health wrote forwarding the approval of the Minister for the provision of accommodation for mental patients.—Received. Two letters were received expressing appreciation of the treatment given to relatives of the writers while in the Wakari and Batchelor Hospitals.—The feeling of the board was that it was most encouraging to receive letters of this sort.
Applications for enrolment as massage students came from Francis C. K. Foster, Frances Lily I*ox. Amy 1. Buckingham, Leslie John Walling Jones, Myrtle Evelyn Walling Jones.--iiiese were accepted. A letter was received from the Medical Superintendent staling that it had been necessary to open the top block at AVakari. —Noted. The reports of the Benevolent, Finance, and the Sanitarium Committees were adopted. RADIUM SUBSIDY. In moving the adoption, of the_ Hospital Committee’s report the Chairman (Mr Knight) spoke ot the sympathetic hearing which had been given the recent deputations. That afternoon a- deputation had waited upon Sir Joseph AVard, and it would he satisfactory to the members of the board and to the public to know that Sir Joseph tvoukl increase the subsidy on ie -' could now look forward to a L for ~ subsidy. Dr Newlands: That is lor one jcai. The Chairman; Yes. The report was adopted.
