THE ANNUAL MEETING The- eighth annual meeting of the Otago o(boors’ Club was held last eveni„o- j,, the Huh rooms. The president (Mr J W. Smeaton) was in 11 1 e chair. The Chairman said it was pleasing to see'such a large attendance. The raeiubTis must agree that the Hub had served its purpose during the year. Tho club was in existence- tor the purpose of encouraging officers to meet socially and also to improve their knowledge by lectures. It was pleasing to know that the membership had Released by sixteen since the last annual meeting. The scries of lectures (rivell had been very interesting. Jho attendance at all the lectures had been excellent, practically half the members bein" present at some of the Inactions. It was very gratifying to know that the noneral staff" took a keen interest in tHc club- Cue of the most interesting lectures was given by .Major Jeuniims and another pleasant evening was* provkiciL. by Major Callan. .1 he club had held live social evenings duri"„rr Hie year. Two of these had been ladies’ nights, and had been most sue cessful. Jf was a. pleasure to- know that the ladies had always taken an interest- in the club. The .committee had decided to reduce the charge tor billiards, and the receipts shoacd a slight falling off in consequence. The committee was indebted to Lieutcnantcolonel Muir for his services as librarian, but it was the of the committee that members would pay more attention to Hie library during Hu: couiins' vear. The committee was indebted’ to the Defence Department lor the interest taken in the club and the assistance given at all times. But tor the interest taken by the staff officers the club would not bo able to carry on. The- club was also indebted io the uaeliine gun orchestra tor providing many enjoyable evenings during the year" In conclusion, he paid a tribute to liic work carried out by I lie caretaker, Ho moved the adoption of the, report and balance-sheet.
