BOARD OF AGRICULTURE
CENTRAL OTAGO IRRIGATION The members_ of tbe Board ol Agriculture who visited Central Otago last week in order to advise the Government in regard to the Irrigation Committee s report were Mr Q. Donald (Featherston), Mr AV. Perrv (Masterton). Mr J. H. Absolom (Hawke’s Buy). Mr G. L. Marshall (Marton), Mr D. Marshall (Waianiwa, Southland), and Mr James Begg, the Otago representative on the board. Mr B. B. Tenncnt (fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture for Otago mid Southland) arranged the tour, and conducted the party through the settlements, and Mr D. M. Bold (president of the Otago Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union) ivas also in attendance. The party left Dunedin on Thursday morning, and went by way of Shag Talley and Pigroot to Alexandra, the same evening. Friday was spent in Ida Valley and thereabouts, and Clyde reached that night. On Saturday the party looked over the Ripponvale areas and into the Tarras and _ ArdgouV schemes, the itinerary stretching as far into the Upper Clutha country as Pembroke and Hawen. On Sunday Fruitlands and the Teviot scheme wore visited, and the return was made to Dunedin. The members will no doubt report at length as to their opinions on the irrigation schemes. Meanwhile they have been content to comment on some side subjects, as, for instance, the high quality of the Central Otago sheep and the excellent work being carried out in the Galloway experimental area,
