CANDLES FOR OPERATION
PRIMITIVE HOSPITAL LIGHTING [Spscial to TH* * STiH.’J AUCKLAND, March 26. The fact that, owing to lack of proper light facilities, operations at Coromandel Hospital must be performed by candle light, if performed at night, was brought to the notice of Mr Ransom, Minister of _ Public Works, by a deputation, which requested the straightening out of the tangle in connection with the provision of proper lighting facilities. Mr S. James, chairman of the Coromandel County Council, who is eightyfour years of ago, told the Minister that on a recent occasion he was the only remaining volunteer to hold the candle while a hospital surgeon amputated a man’s foot.
